Your journey to retirement

Step 1

Notification recieved

Your employer will notify Essex Pension Fund that you are retiring. This may be after your retirement date.

Step 2

Estimate and forms sent

We will calculate an estimate of your pension benefits and send this to you along with your retirement forms, which you will need to complete. This will be sent within 15 working days of Step 1.

Step 3

Your forms recieved

When we have received your completed retirement forms (and, if requested, a photocopy of your birth certificate or passport) that is everything we need from you.

Step 4

Final pay recieved

Your employer will provide Essex Pension Fund with your final pay. This is needed to be able to calculate your exact pension entitlement. It may take your employer a month or so after your retirement to provide us with this information.

Step 5

Pension calulated

Only when steps 3 and 4 are complete can we calculate your pension and inform our pensioner payroll team of the amount to pay each month. We will also instruct Essex County Council to make payment of your lump sum (if a lump is payable).

Step 6

Pension paid

We will write to you and confirm the amount of pension and lump sum (if a lump sum is payable) you will receive. We will send this information to you within 15 working days of steps 3 and 4 being complete.
